The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University seeks to appoint a

W 3-PROFESSOR IN COMPUTER-AIDED CLINICAL MEDICINE (F/M/D)

starting Oct 1, 2022.

The job holder represents the field of computer-aided clinical medicine in its entire breadth in research and teaching and will head the department for computer-aided clinical medicine (CKM) at the Mannheim Institute for Intelligent Systems in Medicine (MIISM) at the Medical Faculty Mannheim.

In research, applicants should have a scientific focus in an area of computer-aided clinical medicine, artificial intelligence in medicine and / or medical physics and strengthen the Faculty Research Focus “Medical Systems Technologies” (formerly: Medical Technology). Close cooperation with the planned Fraunhofer Institute for Medical Informatics and Digital Transformation of Health and the Healthcare Industry as well as with the M2OLIE Research Campus is expected.

The Faculty Research Focus Medical Systems Technologies comprises scientific activities in areas of methodical and technological development of radiological imaging and biomedical analysis including biomedical informatics. The Research Focus Medical Systems Technologies covers the entire spectrum of translation from basic research to preclinical and from clinical-theoretical research to clinical research and clinical application. Significant contributions to the realization of said contents lie in new computer technology processes (artificial intelligence, machine learning). In addition to the Research Focus Medical Systems Technologies, cooperation is also expected with the other Research Areas in the faculty designated “Vascular Biology and Medicine”, “Oncology”, “Translational Neurosciences” and with the Center for Preventive Medicine and Digital Health Baden-Württemberg (CPD-BW).

The Medical Faculty is searching for an individual with an excellent and broad research profile as identified by a respective performance records in the fields specified above. Particular emphasis is placed on her/his experience in the translation of scientific and technical developments into the clinical environment. Successful innovative research projects as well as the acquisition of substantial third-party funding in a competitive international context are expected. In this context, previous experience in the management of major scientific projects should be demonstrated. Broad international networking, industrial cooperation and application development as well as experience in patents are an advantage. Well-founded experience in the promotion of young talents with respect to the supervision of dissertations, diploma, master and bachelor theses, innovative teaching experience and the will to inspire students are desirable.

The prerequisite for application is a university degree in natural sciences (e. g. mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering), a doctorate and, according to Section 47 (2) of the Baden-Württemberg State University Act, a habilitation or a habilitation-equivalent performance record, the successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable academic qualification. Internationally visible, excellent achievements in research and teaching, relevant management experience, successful acquisition of third-party funding and didactic competence are expected as well as the ability to cooperate and lead and commitment to academic self-administration.

The position is available as a permanent employment. If the general and budgetary prerequisites are met, the appointment to this professorship is usually made directly as an appointment for life.
