Associate Research Scientist

Department of Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, seeks an experienced Associate Research Scientist to join the lab of Oliver Clarke, PhD. The primary focus of research is to engage in structural and functional studies of complexes of the mammalian ryanodine receptor with allosteric modulators.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

  • Cloning, construct design, and recombinant expression of membrane proteins in eukaryotic and bacterial expression systems.
  • Membrane protein purification (including from endogenous sources) and reconstitution into lipid nanodiscs and other membrane mimetic systems.
  • Cryo-EM sample preparation, data collection, and processing.
  • Experience in acquiring and analyzing single-channel recordings of ion channels.

Qualified candidates must have a PhD, MD, or both. Five years or more of research experience, including some prior postdoctoral experience, is preferred. Additional duties may be assigned as required. The University offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. This position falls under a collective bargaining agreement.
