A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the laboratory of Karen J. Ho, MD to investigate mechanisms of atherosclerosis and arterial restenosis after vascular surgery. We have a unique and exciting research program in how gut microbes and microbe-derived metabolites alter immunological, metabolic and cellular pathways with the goal of discovering novel targets, biomarkers and therapies. The Ho laboratory is closely integrated with our clinical research. In our pursuit of “bench-to-bedside” integration, we use cellular and animal models (germ-free and conventional), flow cytometry, targeted metabolomics, and transcriptomic data analysis.

Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago is one of the top-ranked research institutions in the United States and is known for its focus on patient-oriented biomedical research and clinical excellence. Our laboratory is located in the heart of downtown Chicago. Salary and benefits highly competitive.

Minimum Qualifications

We seek highly motivated investigators with recent PhD or MD degree who are self-starters, strong communicators and independent problem solvers. Strong background in cellular immunology, molecular/cell biology, and computational skills required.

Minimum Competencies

Applicants with experience in molecular biology, microbiology/microbiome, mouse experimentation, flow cytometry, systems biology, and data science preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to be highly motivated and organized, detail-oriented, and work independently. Candidates should have excellent command of the English language (spoken and written), and must be eligible to work in the US.

Contact

Interested applicants should send cover letter describing qualifications and relevant research  experience and accomplishments (maximum of 1 page), curriculum vitae and the names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of three references by e-mail to Karen Ho (kho1@nm.org) with the subject line “Vascular Surgery Postdoctoral Associate.”
