Job Summary

Postdoctoral Scientist

A postdoctoral scientist position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Binhua (Julie) Ling. The candidate will work on Cure Research of HIV infection in the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infected nonhuman primate model. Dr. Ling’s laboratory is interested in anatomical viral reservoirs, characterization of cells that harbor replication-competent viruses, and identification of source of viral rebound after discontinuation of antiretroviral therapy. We use novel strategies to target identified infected cells for a cure of infection. The laboratory is also interested in immune correlation and protection, HIV and aging, and HIV comorbidities.

The postdoctoral scientist will work closely with the Principal Investigator Dr. Ling and her group, and also with national and international collaborators, and will develop new independent skills. The postdoc will have great opportunities to use state-of-the-art virologic and immunologic technologies at the exceptional environment at the Texas Biomed.   

Requirements for this position are: Required: 1). Ph.D. and/or M.D. or D.V.M. degree in virology, immunology or molecular biology. The position requires training and first-hand experience and skills in virology, molecular biology and/or immunology.  Experience in nonhuman primate work is a plus.
2). Experience in molecular virology such as RNA and DNA isolation, primer design, real-time RT-PCR, droplet digital PCR, sequence phylogenetic analysis, preparation of single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) experiments and data analysis.
3). Experience in basic immunology such as cell culture, cell isolation from blood and tissues, flow cytometry panel design, flow cytometry staining, and data analysis.
4). Strong English written and oral communication skills. Writes scientific papers for publication and abstracts for presentation at national and international meetings related to research projects.
5). Computer skills: (Software: Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, GraphPad Prism, Flowjo, and/or others).
6). Must be able to work independently and also a team player.

This is a full time salaried (exempt) position with some work outside of standard office hours. Texas Biomed business hours are Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace.  Pre-employment drug screen is required.
