The Novo Nordisk Foundation Centers for Protein Research (CPR) and Stem Cell Biology (DanStem) at the University of Copenhagen are looking to recruit an
Image Analysis Specialist

CPR and DanStem are vibrant, internationally diverse, ambitious research centers, housing modern laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities located in close proximity to one another at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Advanced light microscopy is a key technology at both centers and their in-house imaging platforms provide service and support for a large number of scientists.

We are now seeking an enthusiastic Image Analysis Specialist for our joined team at the earliest opportunity.

Your role:

You will be the first line contact for all platform users on all image analysis-related questions. Your everyday work includes both routine tasks and advanced support tasks:

Routine service and support:

  • Discuss user projects in collaboration with the microscopy specialist to optimize the data acquisition for subsequent analysis
  • Offer regular introductions to broadly used analysis programs (Image J, CellProfiler, Imaris, Olympus-ScanR Analysis, Perkin Elmer-Harmony, Huygens) for beginners and advanced users
  • Manage computer workstations for offline image analysis and take care of software purchases, installation, maintenance and updates (local IT-support is provided)

Advanced support:

  • Provide individual hands-on support and training on image analysis software tools and guidance in identifying optimal software and image analysis solutions
  • Develop custom tools and workflows for complex tasks in image analysis
  • Provide support for visualization and statistical evaluation of image data

Your qualifications:

You have a Master or PhD degree in biological or biomedical sciences with at least three years of experience in bio-image analysis. Alternatively, your background is in biophysical sciences or computational image analysis, coupled with a strong interest in cellular imaging and experience in working with biologists. Ideally, you have already worked in a user support-facility environment.

You also have:

  • A broad overview of image analysis tools and are familiar with a variety of image analysis software packages
  • Profound expertise in classical image analysis utilizing cellular and sub-cellular object segmentation for feature extraction and downstream image data quantification
  • Profound knowledge of handling, processing and analysing bioimage data from various sources: 2D-images from wide-field microscopy, 3D-images from confocal microscopy, images from super-resolution microscopes (STED and SIM), 3D images from 2-photon microscopes on deep tissues and organoids, large image data sets from light sheet microscopy, 3D and 4D image series from live cell imaging recordings, large image data sets from high-throughput screening microscopy
  • Experience with handling large data sets and conversion of file types between image analysis programs
  • Ideally, programming skills for the development of custom image analysis tools (such as ImageJ-Fiji Macro language, MatLab, Python, R)
  • Basic skills in applying machine-learning and deep learning- based image analysis tools, which are increasingly provided in commercial software packages, and an interest to develop own skills along that line
  • A good understanding of advanced light microscopy
  • An interest to actively network with the image analysis community (locally and internationally) and to stay in touch with current trends in the field
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English
  • A personality that is helpful, service-minded and goal-oriented
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international environment

What we offer:

  • You will be part of the CPR and DanStem research centers and work together in a team with microscopy specialists at their imaging platforms
  • You are encouraged to engage in a wider network of image analysis specialists at the Faculty for Health and Medical Sciences and the Danish BioImaging Network
  • You will experience and facilitate exciting and diverse biomedical research by working with many scientists at two excellent research centers and be part of a vibrant, collaborative and supportive workplace
  • Funding for participating in relevant conferences and courses to further develop your qualifications in image analysis
  • Permanent employment contract with the University of Copenhagen
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Annual salary reviews
  • 30 days annual leave plus 8 public holidays
  • Relocation support
