Why Patients Need You

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best in class medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will join a collaborative program to research and develop RNA-based vaccines for influenza and other viruses. The program will integrate synthetic biology and RNA technology to rapidly and reliably respond to virus strain changes for seasonal vaccine updates and for pandemic outbreaks. As a member of the viral vaccines team, you will work on the next generation of RNA vaccines and on other virology projects. This is a laboratory-based position that encompasses molecular biology work to generate and purify DNA and RNA constructs and to characterize the RNA in molecular and/or cell-based assays.

You will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of the discipline, you will be an active team member whose decisions impact the project. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. You will be forecasting and planning resource requirements for your project team. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members.

It is your innovative scientific temperament that will help in making Pfizer ready to achieve new milestones and help patients across the globe.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Generate DNA and RNA to support the selection of optimal antigen and vector designs.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments including PCR, cloning, sequencing, and in vitro transcription among others.
  • Design and conduct relevant in vitro model and cell and virus-based assays.
  • Document, interpret, and communicate experiments in this core area of expertise with a goal of advancing viral vaccine development, demonstrating high standards of scientific rigor, including compliant documentation and adherence to formal quality standards when necessary.
  • Collaborate extensively with those from other scientific disciplines from within the group, from other subdivisions of viral vaccines, from other divisions of Pfizer, and potentially from external partners.
  • Mentor junior scientists' activities and provide technical guidance when necessary, with potential to manage 1 or more direct reports.
  • Take on additional scientific challenges as necessary to advance the group's goals, including those in virology, serology, and assay development.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • PhD in molecular biology or virology with at least 3+ years of relevant experience, or a BS/MS with >10 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to work well in sight of aggressive timelines and excellence in multitasking
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented individual
  • Demonstrate curiosity and creative desire to answer scientific questions
  • Be adaptable to take on the group's scientific challenges as they arise.
