The Baliga Lab at the Institute for Systems Biology is looking for an experienced, ambitious, and highly motivated Research Associate 3 or 4 to support ongoing projects focused on Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We use a variety of approaches including tools from biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and computational modeling towards a systems-level understanding of the pathogen’s response to specific environmental cues. A large part of our work is focused on generating various data, including transcriptomics, to predict, explain and manipulate complex biological behaviors. To perform this work in M. tuberculosis, we work in a biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory.

The successful applicant will be fully integrated into ongoing projects and will be expected to design, execute and analyze experiments with appropriate supervision. Enthusiasm, self-motivation and initiative to learn new methods and to perform work efficiently and carefully are essential. The person in this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage and lead project development of moderate size and scope.
  • Contribute technical knowledge when initiating new projects to determining feasibility of goals and objectives of the study.
  • Analyze experimental data and report to manager. Determine modifications and follow-up experiments necessary to generate relevant data.
  • Coordinate with colleagues/manager and accommodate schedule changes to cooperatively accomplish required work.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, etc.) AND at least three to five years of working experience in related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.
  • Willingness to work (experience preferred) in BSL3 environment
