Postdoc Position in Cell & Molecular Biology

The laboratory of Dr. Kristina Schmidt in the Department of Cell Biology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology at the University of South Florida is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers for two NIH-funded projects:

Postdoc position 1: DNA replication stress in budding yeast.

Postdoc position 2: Functions of the human Bloom syndrome DNA helicase in DNA replication.  

Our laboratory has a strong interest in fundamental mechanisms of genome maintenance in yeast and human cells, focusing on (1) DNA replication and replication stress, (2) DNA repair and recombination, (3) RecQ family helicases and other DNA helicases, (4) Bloom syndrome and other human genetic disorders associated with chromosome instability (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2012 109(47):19357-62; Nucleic Acids Res. 2013, 41(22):10215-27; PLoS Genet. 2016 12(12):e1006451; Mol Genet Genomic Med. 2016 4(1):106-19; Genetics. 2018, 208(1):125-138), Sci. Rep. 2021 11(1):2157).

Candidates should be self-motivated with strong research interest and analytical skills, ability to work independently, good communication and writing skills, and a collaborative and interdisciplinary mindset. For Postdoc position 1, experience in working with yeast and standard molecular biological and genomics techniques, including gene knock-in/knock-out, co-immunoprecipitation and chromatin-immunoprecipitation, is required. Additional experience with 2D-gel analysis of replication intermediates or next-gen sequencing approaches is helpful. For Postdoc position 2, experience in working with human cell culture and standard molecular biological and genomics techniques is required. Additional experience with DNA replication assays or confocal microscopy is helpful. In addition to working on existing projects, there are opportunities to develop new independent research within the area of genome instability.

Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. degree in an appropriate scientific field, such as biology, cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or other similar science major.
