The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Division of Extramural Research announces two openings for junior-level Health Scientist Administrators (Program Directors) to direct and manage NCCIH’s Basic and Mechanistic Research programs. These program directors will lead and coordinate NCCIH program activities as well as develop and manage research programs related to 1) immunology and/or other nonneural organ biology, and natural products other than probiotics” seems fine to me (e.g., herbal medicine and/or dietary supplements), or 2) computational or systems biology and technology development within the Basic and Mechanistic Research Branch.  Research to be managed by these positions may range from biochemical, molecular, cellular, genetic and epigenetic, immunological, physiological, and behavioral processes, computational modeling, and network analysis to their relationships with a variety of health or clinical outcomes, with a special emphasis on topics related to whole person health. These positions provide excellent opportunities to impact future research priorities at a national level, develop new research initiatives, and play a leading role in the advancement of basic and mechanistic research related to complementary and integrative health approaches.

General responsibilities of these positions will include administering and managing an extramural portfolio of research grants; interacting with researchers and program directors for related programs within NCCIH, other National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutes and Centers, and other Federal funding agencies; developing new research initiatives; and speaking and representing NCCIH at national and international meetings, as well as with the general public and the media.

NCCIH encourages applications from postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty (assistant professors or equivalent), and junior scientists in biomedical science or the biotechnology industry who are interested in public service and have strong research experience using a broad range of methods, procedures, and techniques to understand health and diseases in animal models or human subjects. These positions require working both independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational, oral, written, and communication skills are required. Experience with the grants process is preferable. The abilities to identify innovative research opportunities as well as to develop and manage research projects are desired. The program directors are expected to work full time on site at NCCIH in Bethesda, Maryland.

As a Federal employee, you and your family have access to a range of benefits that are designed to make your Federal career very rewarding. Please visit Pay and Leave and Benefits on the USAJOBS website to learn more.
