Senior Director, HIV - Global Medical Affairs (GMA)

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Director to join the global HIV Medical Affairs team.

We want someone who is passionate about both the disease area and patient-centric care. The candidate must be a motivated with a proven track record of success in prior similar roles. She/he will play a critical and exciting role driving strategy for GMA and supporting the HIV Medical Affairs organization. The postholder will report to the Stockley Park based Executive Director, HIV Global Medical Affairs. She/he will be part of a globally minded team and will also interact extensively with affiliates particularly in the ACE (Australia, Canada and Europe) region.

The Senior Director Medical Affairs will be a subject matter expert providing medical expertise to inform the development and delivery of global and regional plans.

Essential Duties and Job Functions
  • Develop, innovate and execute the HIV Global Medical Affairs Plan of Action based on a landscape assessment of unmet needs, with cross-functional input from colleagues in HIV: Medical Scientists and Affiliate teams, Government and Public Affairs, Healthcare Policy, Clinical Research, Patient Engagement, Health Economics and Commercial functions
  • Key partner to HIV Treatment Indication Leadership Team, bringing the ACE perspective during strategy development and prioritization process. Leads or co-leads global frameworks/working groups in partnership with GCSP and/or other functions.
  • Core member or key partner for HIV Project Teams
  • Varied project work to raise awareness and support education to HCPs involved in HIV
  • Engage with and support Gilead affiliates in ACE for their local needs and KOL interactions
  • Work closely with our regional medical teams, as well as Medical Education department
  • Working with Executive Director on early development of a variety of projects, she/he will provide independent thought and initiative in the further development of specific projects
  • Prepare for and attend major conferences and lead medical affairs activities at conferences
  • Present to external audiences as a subject matter expert
  • Responsible for the development and execution of projects that will provide more extensive background, additional data or answers to questions in response to issues that arise relative to commercial, scientific or data needs
  • Manage projects to completion, anticipating obstacles and difficulties that may arise, resolving them in a collaborative manner
  • Support the successful delivery of the Global Medical Plan of Action
  • Independently manages projects related to analysis of novel, emerging data and determine relevant information to incorporate into medical content trainings.
  • Participates in Medical Affairs global activities including management of publication and conference data and medical sub team meetings.
  • Contributes to the HIV Medical Affairs Advisory Programs, as needed
  • Participates in the exchange with the medical community and maintains a thought leaders' network
  • Involved in the development and execution of the cross-functional product and TA strategy
  • Stays up to date with medical and scientific developments in the field and applies them internally
  • Provides local medical expert input into global product development
  • Contributes to organizational projects at the national, international, and departmental level


Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • The ideal candidate will be a qualified physician, pharmacist, PhD (Science) or equivalent higher degree
  • extensives medical affairs industry experience
  • HIV, virology or infectious disease experience required
  • Experience in provision of medical information, slide development, medical writing and promotional review committee preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required, with experience in preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations
  • Experienced with patient-centric care desired
  • Committed to continuing education to maintain knowledge base
  • Ability to work collaboratively and experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international conferences which will include weekend travel as required
  • Signatory status or potential to become final signatory desirable
