The Division of NanoMedicine, Department of Medicine and the Center for Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), seeks to recruit postdoctoral researcher to join a multi-disciplinary team exploring the use of polymeric nanoparticles for treatment of allergic disease and anaphylaxis.  The major research objective is the design, synthesis and experimentation using polymeric nanoparticles (e.g., PLGA) for targeted delivery to the immune system to induce antigen-specific immune tolerance.  The technology also has promise for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

Professors Andre E. Nel and Tian Xia (Division of Nanomedicine) are looking for a highly qualified Postdoctoral Researcher with multidisciplinary skills in polymer nanoparticle engineering, biology, and immunology. The candidate should have skills in polymer nanoparticle synthesis, scale up and conducting immunology experiments in animal models for allergic disease.  The successful candidate needs to demonstrate interdisciplinary skills and hands-on experience in polymeric nanoparticle synthesis, physicochemical characterization and immunology studies in cells and animals.  Experience in bioinformatics and epitope-based vaccine design will be important attributes, in addition to skills in designing and planning of experiments, methods development, and data communication.

This position is immediately available for an appointment of 1 year, with the possibility of extension of the appointment contingent upon performance. The salary (including full university benefits) will commensurate with experience and set by the University of California pay scale. In addition to research activities, the postdoc will be expected to mentor undergraduate students and participate in training activities.

Candidate must have completed their PhD in a Bioengineering field, with hands-on experience in the nanoparticle synthesis, physicochemical characterization and in-vitro and in-vivo biological experimentation. Applicants who have already served more than 3 years as a Postdoctoral Researcher are not eligible to apply.  Please forward curriculum vitae and 3 references to Prof. Tian Xia (txia@ucla.edu).
