ROLE SUMMARY

The Upstream Development group within the Early Bioprocess Development Department in Pfizer Vaccine Research and Development is seeking a Senior Scientist who specializes in molecular biology, with hand on experience and in depth knowledge in generating mRNA using IVT methodologies. Process development expertise is also desirable.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Play a senior role in designing experiments to optimize and enhance mRNA product quality and titer
  • Develop method for high throughput generation of mRNA material of comparable quality to large scale manufactured material.
  • Establish monthly work objectives and goals that support the overall program objectives
  • Perform Design of Experiment (DOE) studies to fully characterize processes.
  • Present problems and propose solutions in discussions with group members. Offer insights based on experience to group members to help solve existing problems.
  • Independently analyze experimental data.
  • Author and review DNA/mRNA methodologies
  • Keep abreast of scientific/ technological development by participating in scientific meetings/ seminars and through regular scientific review.
  • Utilize new technologies and establish those technologies to improve mRNA generation capabilities
  • Make timely notebook entries and review for completed experiments

QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Biochemical Engineering or related discipline with at least 0-2 years of academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology experience, or a relevant BS/MS degree with experience appropriate to the position
  • A strong background in genetics/molecular biology/bioengineering
  • Hands on experience of running IVT experiments
  • Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

There are no special physical requirements for this role other than the ability to make aseptic transfers. Mental requirements are a detailed understanding of the scientific subject matter, an ability to make scientific judgments and an ability to perform complex data analysis.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

The work requires a flexible work schedule to properly perform cell culture and fermentation manipulations. This may involve the necessity of working outside of core hours and on weekends.
