Postdoc - Intestinal Bacteria Metagenomics

We are seeking a motivated individual who is interested in facilitating metagenomics collaborative research using big datasets. Training will be provided for this individual through the dedication of resources for big data analysis and through the facilitation of interdisciplinary research collaborations. Using cutting edge software and algorithms, we want this individual to develop workflows for the analysis of diverse, agriculturally relevant datasets being studied at the USDA ARS and to disseminate this information through training workshops and peer-reviewed publications. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with large datasets, training scientific peers, and leading collaborative research projects.

The participant will gain experience with development of software pipelines for metagenome analysis, implementing pipelines on high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and refining pipelines to work for different data sets. The participant will have the opportunity to collaborate with teams at the USDA-ARS, HPC research support core, and breeding software developers. The participant will have the opportunity to collaborate with multiple USDA-ARS scientists by integrating their own research topic questions, and writing collaborative scientific papers dealing with software development and implementation. The participant will present their results at national/international meetings involving researchers, microbiologists, and stakeholders. The participant will learn to lead individual project on metagenomes from swine feces to understand microbiota function changes with dietary additions; in addition, emphasis will be placed on training, collaboration and workflow development
