What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Associate Scientist - Biochemist in the Molecular Biology team embedded in Bacterial Vaccines and Technology, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be part of a team that is addressing the critical task of rejuvenating our pipeline with innovative and critical vaccine programs in the years to come. The Molecular Biology team plays a key role in early antigen development for vaccines and assay development: focusing on cloning, expression, purification and preliminary antigen characterization. With your knowledge in protein purification and characterization, you will be an active team member who influences at the project team level. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience and consulting others. Your ability to plan will help in preparing short-term work activities on projects. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide your team members.

  • Contribute to achievement of goals of the team and influence at the work group/project team level
  • Apply technical skills and functional knowledge to projects/ assignments within own work group/ project team independently and proactively
  • Comply with all safety training and good laboratory practices


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • B.S./M.S. degree in Biochemistry, or a related discipline plus at least two years of relevant hands on experience post-graduation; note this is a non-PhD position
  • Background in the purification of protein or antigens using the AKTA Avant chromatography system is required.
  • Candidate should be proficient in macromolecular separation techniques (IEX, HIC, SEC, and affinity chromatography), and associated biochemical assays.
  • The candidate should be familiar with a variety of antibody-based analytic techniques such as Luminex bead-based assays, biolayer interferometry (Octet) or Plasmon resonance (Biacore).
  • The candidate should have hands on experience on molecular biology projects including cloning (Gibson assembly) and protein expression in bacteria
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and relevant scientific software, including bioinformatics and graphing/statistical analysis tools is expected.


  • The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Nice-to-Have
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture or baculovirus
  • Infectious diseases experience
