RoleSummary

The incumbent candidate will bring to this laboratory-based role the requisite expertise for developing, evaluating and characterizing novel drug delivery formulations for the delivery of diverse biotherapeutic modalities including (but not limited to) lipid nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, vaccines, and protein-based therapies, and other targeted delivery strategies. This individual functions as a lipid/polymer chemist and drug delivery scientist and is responsible for working in a team-based environment to meet project deadlines. The incumbent displays strong scientific and technical expertise in various aspects of polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical and protein chemistry. Incumbent must have the scientific commitment and strong desire to make impactful scientific and technical contributions within the Pharmaceutical Research & Development team and the respective project teams.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific and technical expertise in lipid/polymer chemistry and analytical methods of characterization of lipids and polymers
  • Hands-on experimentation towards the preparation of innovative drug delivery solutions including, but not limited to, lipids or for use in nanoparticles or other delivery technologies
  • Utilize chromatographic, biophysical and other analytical methods for characterization in order to fully understand quality attributes for early research studies
  • Manage laboratory, including care and upkeep of complex lab instrumentation, oversight of important reagent/sample inventory, and strategic scientific instrument capital planning
  • Data management, including notebook keeping, processing of data, writing reports on projects and presenting results to team members and to larger diverse audiences


Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. with 0-3 years relevant industrial experience, M.S. with 3-6 years relevant experience or BS/BA with 5-8 years relevant experience
  • Subject matter expertise in lipid or polymer chemistry, linkers and techniques is essential
  • Hands on experience with organic synthesis, purification and analysis of lipids and/or polymers is required
  • Analytical expertise with HPLC/UPLC (CAD, ELSD, RI), GPC/SEC, DLS, Mass Spectrometry (TOF or MALDI) and/or AF4-MALS is required
  • Some experience with nanoparticles or liposomes and particle characterization such as particle sizing and counting is required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment is essential


Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in oligonucleotide, protein and/or peptide analytical and purification techniques such as Capillary Gel Electrophoresis, HPLC/UPLC, TFF/HF, and/or other methods is highly recommended
  • Working knowledge in aqueous bioconjugation reactions and reagents for both small molecules and/or biologics is highly recommended
  • Some experience with other drug delivery technologies is a plus
