Job Details

The Immunology department at MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks to determine the fundamental cellular and molecular mechanisms of a wide range of processes by which the body recognizes and eliminates pathogens and use these findings to unleash the patient's own immune system against previously treatment-resistant cancers. Treating the immune system rather than the cancer itself, the therapeutics developed are applicable to many cancers.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Data Analysis
  • With proficiency in R, Linux and HPC, performs data analysis tasks on a variety of projects that include analysis, integration, interpretation and reporting of microarray, NanoString, RNA-seq, DNA-Seq, single cell sequencing, CyTOF and other experimental data in the setting of immunotherapy. Experience with imaging data is a plus.
  • Develops, applies, and provides bioinformatics software and computational tools to researchers.
  • Works closely with clinical scientists to understand data processing challenges and provide custom solutions for sequencing, gene expression, proteomics, pathway, DNA copy number, genomic and proteomic data to expedite scientific projects and drug discovery process.
  • Develops and deploys prototype algorithms and parallel processing methods, analyze data, evaluate results, and effectively presents them to collaborators.

Project Development
  • Consistently develops and customizes software applications according to project-specific needs.

Research
  • Searches literature and investigates emerging data analysis tools and technologies; recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements and upgrades.

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree or PhD with a concentration in Science, Engineering or related field.

Experience

Required: Five years experience in scientific software development/analysis. With preferred degree three years experience required.

Preferred: Proficiency in one of the following: R, Linux, High Performance Computing
