SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Investigator position is to carry out laboratory research projects, comprehending the functions of immune and molecular profiling. Technical experience working with cell lines, patient samples, manual and automated staining and scanning. The RI must be able to provide technical and coordination skills in carrying out various research projects, coordinates procedures, estimates budgets, and performs technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Perform molecular extractions and analyses on automated systems. Identifying appropriate tissue specimen blocks for studies, cutting and staining of tissues, and extraction of DNA, RNA, protein and other molecular analytes. Performs quality assessment of the extracted samples and interprets the data. Optimization of DNA/RNA extraction and single cell processing techniques, troubleshooting and staining using up to date techniques on manual and automated systems. Utilizes laboratory equipment to carry out experiments. Proficient in independently identifying the best patient specimens for molecular analyses. .
Data Acquiring and Analysis Data evaluation and recording in concordance with methods requested. Skills to operate scanner, microtome and slide stainer, and troubleshooting technical problems if necessary.
Develop novel techniques for molecular analysis of biomarkers in patients' samples. Develop techniques utilizing FFPE and fresh frozen specimens, core needle biopsies, surgical samples and smears from different tumor types to biomarkers analysis. Performance research, update, and upgrade novel techniques for complex research projects involving molecular and immune profiling.
Laboratory Maintenance and Project Coordination Maintains Lab Functions to include ordering of supplies and ensures lab equipment is maintained in good operating order. Project Coordination of all APOLLO projects, including tracking of samples and reagents, supervision of research assistants, coordination with the pathologists, for projects including the department of translational molecular pathology, TMP-IL, Moon Shots and Alliances initiatives.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
