Job Summary

Postdoctoral Scientist

Postdoctoral Scientist position in Molecular Biology, Virology, Microbiology and Immunology is available in the laboratories of Dr. Luis Martinez-Sobrido and Dr. Jordi B. Torrelles. The candidate will work on funded U.S. Department of Defense projects involving testing surface disinfectants and aerosol sanitizing devices in vitro and in vivo against respiratory pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. Drs. Martinez-Sobrido and Torrelles laboratories are interested in the identification and characterization of new prophylactic and therapeutic countermeasures to combat microbial infections.

The postdoctoral scientist will work with a vibrant and international collaborative group of virologists cell biologists, aerobiologists and immunologists in direct interaction/collaboration with other researchers at Texas Biomed and other research institutes.

Requirements for this position are: Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, microbiology, virology or immunology. Ideal candidate should have training and experience in molecular biology, immunology, virology and animal work.

Experience working in a biosafety Level 3 environment (e.g. cultivation of viral and bacterial strains under BSL-3 conditions).

Experience working with rodents (mouse/hamsters) (e.g. multiple routes infections/treatments, necropsies, tissue processing, cell isolation, bacterial and viral titers, etc).

Experience in basic immunology techniques such as cell isolation and culture, ELISA; flow cytometry, cell separation techniques.

Strong English written and oral communication skills. Computer skills (Software: Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, GraphPad Prism and/or others). Must be a team player.

Preferred:  Experience with aerobiology. Experience in basic molecular techniques such as DNA & RNA extraction from cells, performing polymerase chain reaction; qRT-PCR, primer design.

This is a full time salaried (exempt) position with some work outside of standard office hours. Texas Biomed business hours are Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace.  Pre-employment drug screen is required.
