St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital | Memphis, TN

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the world’s premier centers for research and treatment of childhood catastrophic diseases, such as cancer, sickle cell diseases and certain infectious diseases. The mission of St. Jude is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.  St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world.

The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, LLC, was founded in 2015 as a degree granting body to enhance training of the next generation of researchers and health care professionals.  The St. Jude Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences has a singular focus on the mission of “finding cures, saving children,” which is the foundation of its national and international prominence.  The Graduate School is leveraging this unique mission-driven focus on pediatric catastrophic diseases to create outstanding educational experiences for students in three graduate programs: PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Master of Science in Global Child Health and Master of Science in Clinical Investigations.

Reporting to the Dean of the Graduate School, the SVP & COO will provide the vision, leadership and expertise as the institution continues to develop a world class graduate school.  The SVP & COO will oversee all the graduate school’s administrative activities, help coordinate the educational programs, and create and manage all processes related to institutional effectiveness.  The selected leader will contribute to and support cultural competency in the administration of the Graduate School programs.  This visionary leader will effectively drive results in a people-centered, social mission-driven environment.  Furthermore, he/she must embody the mission and vision of the Graduate School and lead through emotional intelligence, respect, integrity, and humility.

The chosen leader will possess the following:

  • Ten years of management experience in graduate education, including overseeing and being responsible for a premier US graduate school, is required.
  • Master’s degree in higher education, business or science is required.
  • Doctorate level degree is strongly preferred in science, medicine, education, public health or in a similar field of study.
  • Postdoctoral experience in science and/or teaching is preferred.

Memphis is a vibrant city located on the Mississippi River in southwest TN. Many St. Jude faculty, postdoctoral research associates and staff reside in the Memphis metro area.  Memphis is the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock-and-roll.  The city offers numerous cultural attractions, live theatre community, a nationally recognized ballet company, the Memphis Botanic Garden and the Memphis Zoo.  Memphis’ outdoor enthusiasts enjoy local parks as well as the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas and the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee.  Culture buffs appreciate the proximity to New Orleans, St. Louis and Nashville, and foodies can delight in the city’s authentic BBQ and historic soul food restaurants. The Memphis metro area truly has something to offer everyone.
