ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated scientist to become part of a team focusing on assay development and high throughput screening for the generation and identification of novel biotherapeutics. The individual will participate in efforts to develop and integrate cell-based functional assays including, but not limited to, reporter gene, downstream signaling, internalization, proliferation, & apoptosis to address unmet screening needs. Qualified candidates will develop each assay for high-throughput capacity through the use of robotics, liquid handlers and relevant screening platforms. The successful individual will collaborate with and support various research units for the development of biotherapeutics, and thrive in a fast-paced, team environment. In this position, the successful candidate will work within a matrix, across a portfolio of programs, collaborating with multiple groups including the research units (discovery biology) and several partner lines.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Develop cell-based functional assays for high-throughput screening
  • Troubleshoot experimental design and assay optimization
  • Conversion of current biochemical and cell-based assays into HT format
  • Extensive experience in the integration and establishment of high-throughput integrated automation system, liquid handlers, screening platforms and data capture systems
  • Work closely with external vendors with regard to new technologies and instrumentation
  • Critically analyze experimental data and present results at internal meetings.
  • Collaborate with and support the relevant biology research units
  • Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are performed according to scientific and ethical standards and accurately documented in lab notebook

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD in biology, biochemistry or related field with 3+ years of research experience in assay development and high throughput screening, with the ability to succeed in a collaborative, highly matrixed environment.
  • Strong background in assay development techniques for all major cell membrane target classes including GPCRs, transporters, ion channels, etc.
  • Expert level knowledge of assay development methodologies for binding and functional activity
  • Experience with homogenous assay development including H TRF/LANCE/DELFIA/Alpha Screen
  • Experience with different detection technologies including FRET, luminescence (enzyme complementation), fluorescence, and absorbance
  • Experience in molecular biology and cell line manipulation
  • Cell culture expertise (primary and immortalized)
  • Prior experience with high-throughput screening, automation and liquid handling platforms
  • Experience with high content screening platforms including the InCell6000 or Cellomics Array Scan
  • Experience with integrated automated platforms such as ThermoFisher's Spinnaker/Columbus or High Res Biosolutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Industry experience within drug discovery (small or large molecule) is a plus
  • A highly motivated, self-directed scientist with the demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize work and manage a number of projects
  • Exceptional communication skills, attention to detail and customer focus
