ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a very experienced BS/MS degree level (non-PhD) protein crystallization specialist to join the Structural Biology group at Pfizer- Boulder Research and Development Unit. This individual will work closely with our protein crystallographer to express, purify, and crystalize a variety of challenging proteins for use in both structural and mechanistic studies.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and conduct protein crystallization trials, crystal optimization, and X-ray data collection.
  • Establish purification protocol and purify recombinant proteins from source cells.
  • Perform E. coli growth and recombinant protein expressions at liter-scale.
  • Document experimental data.
  • Communicate research priority, progress, and results with project teams.
  • Contribute to written and oral presentations related to research findings.
  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to junior research associates within the team.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science degree with 9+ years' or Master of Science degree with 7+ years' experience in protein crystallization and protein purification for crystallization.
  • An expert in protein crystallization resulted in diffracting crystals and high-resolution protein crystal structures.
  • Independent bench-scientist capable of purifying proteins at multi-mg scale; familiar with AKTA purifier system and standard analytical techniques associated with assessing protein purification process.
  • Experience in recombinant protein expressions in E. coli.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and written/oral communication skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiar with crystal handling and data collection at synchrotron facilities.
  • Experience with cryo-EM sample preparation protocols including negative staining and sample vitrification.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to lift 50lb objects with dimensions 12 inches in height and 26 inches in width.
  • Able to visualize microscopic objects under microscopes.


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to adhere to safe work practices and perform lab works with appropriate personal protection equipment such as but not limited to safety goggles, facial mask, gloves, lab coat/ protective gowning, and closed toe shoes.
  • Able to work at flexible hours occasionally when performing time-sensitive experiments.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $80,000 to $133,300. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
