ROLE SUMMARY

The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is seeking a highly motivated laboratory scientist to be a member of the GPCR pharmacology group. This Senior Associate Scientist will be an integral member of a team which broadly supports the IMRU portfolio across various disease areas. The individual will apply his in vitro pharmacology expertise to develop assays and design experiments to define the structure-activity relationships and understand the mechanism of action of compounds throughout different stages of the projects. In this position, the successful candidate will be collaborating with multiple groups including discovery biology, medicinal chemistry and primary pharmacology.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary focus will be the conduct of cell and tissue-based studies to generate in-depth pharmacology knowledge of compound mechanism of action and relevance to human biology.
  • Individual is expected to understand relevant scientific literature and develop technical competencies in the area of in vitro and ex vivo GPCR and cytokine receptor pharmacology.
  • Candidate will perform experiments, establish robust biochemical/ cell-based screening assays, analyze/ summarize data, and communicate results with the project team.
  • Maintain immortalized and primary cell cultures as needed for assay development and screening efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Primary Pharmacology Group to ensure alignment around assay technology selection, assay quality criteria and validation requirements.
  • Prepare and present experimental results to project teams
  • Maintain high quality experimental records within electronic laboratory notebook.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in biology, pharmacology, biochemistry or a related field with 0- 3 years of relevant lab experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience or expertise in GPCR pharmacology.
  • Knowledge of traditional second messenger signaling assays as well as cutting-edge approaches to dissect GPCR function including FRET-based binding assays, BRET-based signaling biosensors, label-free technologies, etc.
  • Molecular and cell biology experience including cell culture (primary and immortalized), gene silencing and expression analyses.
  • Good organization skills with high level of initiative in performing and troubleshooting experiments.
  • Comfort with relevant software tools such as Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism is preferred.
  • Experience in low to moderate throughput compound screening preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to multitask, work on multiple projects and be an integral member of cross-functional project teams.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills and present results in individual and group settings.
  • The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic quick learner excited by a role with high demands.
