Staff Scientist Position

The Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics Branch (CMTB) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites applications for a Staff Scientist position in the laboratory of Dr. John Tisdale. The laboratory is focused on development of stem cell therapies with genetic modification for sickle cell disease patients, including allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, hematopoietic stem cell-targeted gene therapy/genome editing, and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell-derived stem cell therapy. We seek a highly motivated, creative, and bright individual with expertise in gene and stem cell therapies. The candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent with at least 3 years of post- doctoral experience. A good track record of productivity judged by peer reviewed publications is recommended. The successful candidate must have a strong background in molecular biology, stem cell biology, gene therapy, genome editing, genetics, and/or hematology.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to pursue research interests in an interdisciplinary setting and advance their research career in the supportive intramural environment of the NIH campus, which also includes core facilities specializing in transgenic mice, human iPS cells, advanced microscopy, sequencing, proteomics, biochemistry, and bioinformatics.

The successful application will be offered a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The initial appointment will. Be for a minimum of 2 years, with possible appointment renewals in 1-year increments. Appointees must be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or nonresident aliens with a valid employment visa.
