Dana-Farber Cancer Institute would like to invite applications for an experienced Imaging Scientist. The successful candidate will manage the Dana-Farber Molecular Imaging Facility under the direction of the Scientific Directors Kai Wucherpfennig and Judith Agudo.
The Imaging Scientist works closely with the scientific directors to implement state of the art imaging technologies, including highly multiplexed tissue imaging technologies at the protein and RNA level. The scientist will work closely with researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to provide expertise on experimental design, develop and implement advanced imaging protocols, as well as provide data processing and image analysis solutions. The scientist will train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in use of instruments. Additionally, they will maintain and customize the microscopes and software in the facility to meet advanced users’ needs and allow novel imaging experiments to be performed.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in Biology, Biophysics, Optical Engineering or related field. They must have an in-depth understanding of imaging techniques and hands-on experience on imaging biological samples along with expertise in image processing and analysis (ImageJ, Imaris, Matlab). The scientist will be customer service-oriented, demonstrate willingness to help our researchers, have excellent organization and communication skills and the ability to interact with researchers at various levels of experience (faculty, research fellows, graduate students, technicians, etc). The ability to lead all operational and training aspects of the facility with limited supervision is critical.
Requirements
- Implements new imaging technologies in collaboration with the scientific directors and other scientists.
- Designs and executes imaging experiments.
- Analyzes experimental data and interprets results.
- Advises postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in the design of imaging experiments.
- Operational oversight and upkeep of the Molecular Imaging Facility. This includes ensuring that instruments are functional, troubleshooting and completing regular preventative maintenance. This includes but is not limited to the setup, adjustment, calibration, and cleaning of instruments.
- Conducts in-person and online training sessions and provides supporting materials to support training with step-by-step procedures.
- Interprets and implements complex instructions, both written and oral, from investigators.
- Provides intellectual and interactive commitment to the position by keeping up with appropriate literature and research publications.
- Uses scientific literature to develop, maintain, modify and/or improve microscopy and tissue imaging standard operating procedures
- Maintains detailed notes and files of all work-related activities.
- Orders supplies and maintains stocks of items required for the core facility operations and experiments.
- Monitors laboratory work to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety information as well as the standard operating procedures specific to each laboratory.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in life sciences or related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with microscopy techniques and/or tissue imaging techniques.
- Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
- Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
