The Medicine Design group in Pfizer comprises experts in the major scientific disciplines involved in the discovery and preclinical development of small molecule drugs: molecular design, synthesis, computational chemistry, pharmacology, chemical biology, structural biology, biophysics, DMPK and analytical chemistry. We have long been renowned not only for delivering high quality drug candidates into the clinic but also for establishing new drug design approaches and principles, such as the "Rule of 5" and property-based drug design, that have raised the bar of quality in the discipline and been widely-adopted across the industry.

As a Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Design at Pfizer you will play a key role in large, multi-disciplinary matrix teams from project inception through to delivery of clinical drug candidates. You will also contribute to teams of scientists looking to combine Pfizer's expertise and large-scale research investments, with external academic and biotech collaborations, to revolutionize our approach to the discovery and development of small molecule and synthetically-derived drugs.

Role Responsibilities
  • Application of contemporary data analysis and design tools to drive effective target design and prioritization within a project
  • Effective use of both internal & external design resources available to the project team
  • Devise effective hit ID strategies to move projects through the Hit-to-Lead phase with scientific excellence, efficiency and speed
  • Play a key role in progressing projects through the Lead Optimization phase in partnership with enabling functions within Medicine Design to ensure the delivery of small molecule/synthetic drug candidates with scientific excellence, efficiency and speed
  • Contribute to the identification of new small molecule projects to the portfolio through collaborations with disease area biologists
  • Play a role in enhancing the external reputation of Pfizer's Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Design and synthetic Drug Discovery capabilities through publications and presentations at leading conferences
  • Work with local leadership to put in place an active program of self-development in medicinal chemistry skills


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate level degree in relevant area of science, or equivalent experience
  • Examples of strong learning agility and problem solving from scientific work to date
  • A strong desire to gain a contemporary knowledge of the key Medicinal Chemistry concepts and design tools required for pharmaceutical drug discovery
  • Examples of peer-reviewed publications from scientific work to date


Preferred Qualifications
  • Examples of high impact publications from scientific work to date
  • Experience of working in teams of scientists to deliver objectives
  • Exposure to some element relevant to medicinal chemistry from scientific work to date
