The position of Senior Director and Head, Clinical Imaging represents a unique opportunity to lead a highly respected Clinical Imaging group. In this position you will have a PhD and/or MD or equivalent with a solid background in imaging applied to drug development and a strong record in leading specialised and multiskilled imaging scientists in a matrix environment. Head of Clinical Imaging reports into the SVP, Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Medicine and provides imaging expertise and strategic direction for all phases of drug development and across multiple therapeutic areas with a focus on oncology, inflammation and neuroscience.

The intent of this role is to set a clear strategic direction for clinical imaging across the pipeline from translational activities through to late-phase regulatory studies. The individual will be required to:

1. Use strategic thinking to set a vision of how imaging can be optimised to further enhance the development and approval of GSK assets. Clearly communicate this through a network of key stakeholders across the organisation.

2. Drive a cohesive, high-performing, multi-disciplinary team of imaging experts across the breadth of imaging needs.

3. Provide broad imaging expertise from well-established methods through to state-of-the-art techniques.

4. Provide leadership of programmatic and capability building required to deliver innovation.

  • As a highly influential leader, understand business priorities and optimise an agile team to deliver imaging solutions that support GSK R&D ambitions.
  • Accountable for the delivery of clinical imaging for Ph1-Ph3 across a range of imaging modalities and a broad range of therapeutic areas.
  • Be a key partner with pre-clinical colleagues for planning of translational imaging strategies.
  • Lead a strategy for a strong, agile external academic network aligned to pipeline needs.
  • Develop and adapt CRO partnerships particularly to scale imaging support for multicentre imaging
  • Establish an imaging data strategy in close collaboration with internal partners to enable the value of imaging data including re-use of imaging datasets to be maximised (e.g. imaging for phenotyping).
  • Build strong matrix connections to key technology groups - e.g. biomarkers, digital, AIML.
  • Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art imaging across modalities ensuring GSK has timely access to impactful methods.
  • Inspire the imaging team with an exciting vision, identify and develop key talent.
  • A member of the Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Medicine leadership team providing influence in the use of innovation for early clinical development.
  • Accountable for a budget to support enabling technologies

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • PhD and/or MD or equivalent post-graduate degree with at least 10 years of experience in clinical imaging and the application to drug development.
  • Experience with managing multi-skilled teams and developing staff
  • Experience across a wide range of therapeutic areas and drug development phases in an industry setting
  • Experience guiding innovative technologies to support drug development decision making- for example, taking novel molecular imaging to the clinical, implementing techniques in a multicentre setting, using advanced image analysis and analytics.
  • Experience in imaging data and specifically new opportunities through data re-use activities (e.g. using AIML).
  • Experience in developing strong, broad partnerships with CROs and academic centres
  • Experience developing translational imaging pathways

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to simplify complex technology concepts to non-experts.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and external contacts on a functional and strategic level.
  • Experience delivering multi-centre imaging studies including data generated for regulatory submissions
  • Experience leading a broad, multi-disciplinary group
  • Responsibility for finance
  • Experience in a range of therapeutic platforms including small molecules and biopharms.
