Chair, Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) invites applicants for the position of Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. We are seeking an individual with strong leadership qualities, a record of research accomplishment and educational achievement to lead a basic science faculty spanning multiple disciplines. The Department has over 40 faculty, including some affiliated with research institutes in infectious disease, immunology and cancer, and the faculty also participate in teaching in the medical, dental and graduate schools. The Chair will be responsible for sustaining and building the research mission of the department, in conjunction with the centers, institutes and other departments of NJMS, mentoring and developing faculty, and providing high quality educational programs. Candidates must have a PhD, MD or equivalent, past experience as a faculty member in an academic department, or similar institutional environment and be qualified for a senior level academic appointment. Excellence in scholarship and research is also essential, and it is expected that the successful candidate will have an internationally recognized research program with a strong and continuing record of extramural funding.
