Are you looking for a role that you can develop cell-based analytical assays to support cell and gene therapies? If so, this is the role for you.

GSK's Structure Function Characterization (SFC) department is seeking a highly motivated scientist to assist with the development of immunological assays. SFC supports GSK Biopharmaceutical Process Development to ensure GSK's biopharm products enable patients to do more, feel better, and live longer. As part of the Biological Process Residual group, you will be responsible for designing, developing, qualifying and implementing analytical methods based on biochemical or immunological methodology. You will be responsible forwriting the assay SOP's and development/qualification reports. Part of your responsibility will include training and transferring the methods to R&D groups and Contract Research Organizations and to support those groups as they implement the assays. Some of the method transfers may involve travelling to sites in the US and other countries.

Your responsibilities will also include troubleshooting assays when they fail to meet performance specifications. In addition, as a subject matter expert you will be expected to maintain awareness of the current literature relevant to methods you are developing and to suggest improvements to those techniques based on publications, including the application of novel analytical technologies. An important part of your responsibilities will be to interpret the data and communicate experimental results through internal meetings, publications, and reports and to accurately record experimental results in laboratory notebooks. Along with others, you will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring that it functions correctly and safely and complies with applicable maintenance procedures (safety, SOPs, and administrative). You will perform all these duties with some supervision, which will depend on your experience.

Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • BS or MS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a related scientific field.
  • 1-3 years' experience in academic or industrial laboratory
  • Experience working with immunoassays (ELISA) and basic molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with computer software packages such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
  • Practical experience with biochemical techniques, including: ELISA, quantitative PCR (qPCR) Real Time, SDS-PAGE, 2-D DIGE, and Western blot.


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Understanding of biopharmaceutical upstream and downstream process development.
  • Practical experience with laboratory automation, specifically regarding programming liquid handling systems and assay development is preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods as applied to bioanalytical data interpretation is preferred
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Highly motivated and organized individual is required
