We have an exciting new position available within the MALDI MS Bioimaging group at GSK, based from our world-class R&D site at Collegeville, PA. The role will focus on development of non-targeted imaging mass spectrometry-based workflows to deliver functional pharmacology mechanistic endpoints to projects. As part of the MALDI MS Bioimaging team, you'll be responsible for the application and advancement of imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) to better understand the mechanisms of drug tissue disposition, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, and toxicology in the development of safe and efficacious drugs. Utilizing leading edge MS instrumentation, custom imaging software tools, and pioneering IMS tissue quantification, our innovative group works collaboratively to help drive critical decisions in all therapeutic areas.

Bioimaging at GSK

The Bioimaging department brings together key areas of in vivo and ex vivo imaging combined with histology to understand both disease state and intervention, combining data on drug distribution with the effect that distribution has on intact biological systems. At GSK we believe that the fewer barriers there are in delivering the science, then the better our delivery of new medicines to patients. As part of the wider In Vitro/In Vivo Translation platform we encourage enterprise collaboration as well as external partnership with the wider scientific community to achieve our full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop non-targeted IMS workflows to deliver functional pharmacology mechanistic endpoints for projects and enhance understanding of biological systems
  • Develop molecular identification strategies using tissue extracts and tissue surface analysis methods (e.g. LESA) to achieve accurate molecular assignment from MALDI imaging data
  • Work in partnership with the Imaging Analytics teams and other stakeholders to build data repositories and custom pipelines to achieve streamlined identification of endogenous biological molecules and cellular pathways, and facilitate broader data reuse
  • Work in partnership with project teams to understand project issues, provide input and report data to matrix teams, including close networking with all imaging groups across GSK.
  • Maintain timely communication to named key study personnel, other key stakeholders and management, of study related events and/or deviations.
  • Share responsibility for lab management, equipment maintenance, safety rep and similar roles.
