Position Objective

The Case Cardiovascular Research Institute at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute at University Hospitals seeks to hire a post-doctoral fellow to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Rajagopalan. The Rajagopalan lab studies metabolic changes, circadian rhythm, neurocognitive and epigenetic modifications and their translational relevance to human diseases. The lab is particularly interested in the immune interface of metabolic/circadian alterations and epigenetic control of these pathways. We are developing novel approaches to probe cell-type specific epigenetic changes in complex tissues using techniques including microdissection, fluorescence-activated nuclear sorting, DNA methylation analysis by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing, and transcriptional profiling (e.g.,RNA-seq and ChIP-seq, Bisulfite-seq).

This position will focus on the role of molecular control of immunity in diseases like atherosclerosis and metabolic syndrome through circadian disruption and epigenetic regulations. The applicant must have a PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical sciences with an established record of peer reviewed publications. Interested individuals should send a cover letter, CV, and contact information of three people who could provide recommendation letters of reference by email to

As a Postdoctoral Scholar, the candidate is expected to:

1. Play a leading role in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments in mouse
models to improve our understanding of how epigenetic factors shape immune
responses, in response to environmental stressors.
2. Have a strong background in animal models and in-vivo physiology with an emphasis on
metabolic characterization.
3. Perform mouse experiments and husbandry including, breeding, genotyping and
maintain an accurate animal database.
4. Have expertise in FACS/Flow Sorting and single cell isolation approaches.
5. Rigorously document experimental results and present results in laboratory meetings,
departmental seminars and scientific conferences.
6. Prepare manuscripts and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals.
7. Work closely with other lab members to ensure projects are being completed according
to the research plan and in organizing laboratory space and supplies.

Experience with analytical approaches to high-volume genomic, epigenomic, and gene
expression data is a strong plus.

Train and oversee rotation students and other research staff in the lab.

PhD in Immunology or other biomedical sciences with bioinformatics research experience.

PhD with 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience.

NIH salary scale.

Experience in cell culture of primary mouse and human hematopoietic stem and progenitor
Experience in immunology techniques notably multi-panel flow cytometry.
Experience in molecular cloning, molecular & cell biology techniques.
Experience with handling and working on animal model experiments.
Ability to work independently after essential training has been provided.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Flexibility in work schedule to complete necessary study within deadlines.
