Role Summary

We are seeking a candidate specializing in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture to work in the BioMedicine Design (BMD) line of the Medicinal Sciences Organization. In this role the candidate will apply molecular and synthetic biology approaches to protein expression in mammalian cell systems for the production of recombinant protein biotherapeutics. The candidate will work with senior scientists within the group to advance biotherapeutic candidates in the discovery space to support the large molecule discovery portfolio across Pfizer.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide molecular biology support for development of mammalian cell lines stably expressing recombinant protein biotherapeutics.
  • Generate stable cell lines, cell banks and perform expression batch assessment.
  • Scale-up of CHO cell lines in mid to large-scale single use bioreactors. 10-100L.
  • Depth filtration of conditioned media with capsule or large-scale POD.
  • Capture data in an electronic notebook and routinely provide updates at project meetings.
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies and implement new features and functionality into the discovery pipeline.
  • Work with the head of group, project leads, and other senior group members on experimental design and providing data packages with the goal of identifying and advancing best strategies.
  • Successful candidate will be involved in the design and execution of projects with the ability to operate independently.


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with 2-5 years of experience OR Master's Degree with 0-2 years of experience in area of synthetic biology/bioengineering/chemical engineering .
  • Hands on experience with a wide range of molecular biology techniques, including design and execution of DNA assembly using strategies such as Gibson and InFusion.
  • Experience with suspension and attached antibiotic-free mammalian cell culture, genome engineering and stable cell line generation.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral and ability to work in a dynamic collaborative team.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of antibody structure and function.
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
