Responsibilities
Mercer University School of Medicine seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty with expertise in epigenetics. We are particularly interested and encourage applications from investigators with interests in applying epigenetic approaches to cancer and/or populations who are disproportionately at risk for health disparities, although all areas of epigenetics will be considered. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of epigenetics and the relationship between the epigenome and phenotype utilizing either genomic, bioinformatic, genetic epidemiological, and/or systems approaches. The candidate is expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program and to interact collaboratively with basic scientists and clinical faculty located on the Macon, Savannah, Columbus, and Atlanta campuses, as well as training initiatives involving undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. Successful applicants will participate in MUSM's interdisciplinary patient-based learning curriculum for medical students. Rank will be determined based on the credentials of the selected candidate. Applications for consideration at the Associate Professor level must have a demonstrated track record of scholarly research including extramural, peer-reviewed funding and excellence in teaching. The Mercer University School of Medicine has facilities for electron and confocal microscopy, well equipped molecular and cell culture labs, fluorescence-activated cell sorting facility, and animal husbandry available to all investigators.
The mission of Mercer University School of Medicine is to educate Georgia students who will become well-trained, compassionate healthcare professionals in Georgia and practice in rural or medically underserved areas of this state. Our goal is to provide rural and underserved Georgians access to care delivered with skill, compassion and the highest level of integrity. In addition to the M.D. program, Mercer University School of Medicine offers graduate degree programs in Pre-clinical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences and Marriage and Family Therapy. The full 4-year M.D. program is offered in the Macon and Savannah campuses and years 3 and 4 of the M.D. program are additionally offered in the Columbus Campus. Students have the opportunity to learn in institutions such as Memorial University Medical Center, Savannah; Columbus Regional Health and St. Francis Hospital, Columbus; Medical Center at Navicent Health and Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD., MD, or equivalent) in a related field from an accredited university/college and have at least three years of post-doctoral experience with a record of scholarly activity as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications.
