Job Details

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to demonstrate technical skills performing biological assays in cell cultures while following standard operating procedures for the laboratory.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Duties:

* Monitors mice and administration of drugs to mice via gavage or ip route in animal facility.

* Assists students and postdocs with animal surgery and breeding.

* Carries out tissue culture and bacterial culture.

* Prepares reagents and restocks consumables.

* Performs molecular biological experiments such as Western blots.

* Participates and helps other laboratory members to promote ongoing projects in the laboratory.

* Compiles and analyzes data.

* Presents organized data to manager for discussion.

* Uses Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphic and Statistical programs to create charts, posters, and reports as needed to reflect research results.

* Adheres to protocols for each project.

* Communicates with vendors to discuss products and purchase related issues.

* Helps organize laboratory meetings and seminars.

* Helps others in the implementation of new techniques as needed.

Equipment & Safety:

* Maintains laboratory equipment in clean, working order.

* Keeps up-to-date contact information for service technicians for equipment maintenance.

* Organizes storage of laboratory equipment/consumables to best optimize space efficiency and overall laboratory safety.

Collaboration & Record Keeping:

* Works in a collaborative and supportive manner with others.

* Focuses on the tasks and exhibits meticulous work habits.

* Records and evaluates data in accordance with routine data management in the laboratory.

* Keeps data well organized and easily accessible.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: No experience.

Preferred: Mice experience.
