The Research Assistant I provides technical assistance in carrying out various research projects.

Lab Studies
Tissue culture - practicing sterile technique, maintaining cells in culture, banking cells, freezing cells, thawing cells, mycoplasma testing, cell authentication, passing single cell colonies, media preparation and cell treatment. Immunohistochemistry - tissue labeling, single and multiplex staining, antibody panel design and conjugation, imaging and microscopy.

Animal Work
Perform colony maintenance, mouse surgeries, drug treatment (some treatments are daily, hence, require attendance over the weekend), and related tissue processing work.

General and Miscellaneous Laboratory Duties
Be able to procure study subject biological samples and perform basic molecular biologic techniques including blood procuring, DNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, genotyping, cell culture, mutation assay and immunohistochemistry. Organize files and track study subject information and materials relevant to the molecular epidemiologic studies. Maintain proper function of laboratory as related to safety and regulatory guidelines. Order and maintain laboratory equipment. Participate in general laboratory supply and functions. Other duties as assigned.

Education Required:
Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred Experience:
Tissue culture and mouse experience
