Funded postdoctoral position available in the lab of Sally Temple at the Neural Stem Cell Institute (NSCI) to undertake study of the Retinal Pigment Epithelium Stem Cell (RPESC) for basic and translational objectives. This 4-year funded project seeks to define critical factors for RPE regeneration in vitro and in vivo. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent, a strong interest in vision research and a background in molecular biology, cell biology, and cell culture models of retinal disease are encouraged to apply. Experience with CRISPR and computational biology skills will be highly valued.

This project will incorporate:

  • maintenance and directed differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells
  • primary RPE cell isolation and culture
  • CRISPRi
  • proteomic analysis
  • molecular biology and phenotypic assays
  • manuscript preparation and communication of results

 

Founded in 2007 by Drs. Sally Temple and Jeff Stern, the Neural Stem Cell Institute is an independent research organization for successful translation of neural stem cell discoveries to therapeutics. Work out of the NSCI has produced more than 90 publications in top-tier journals, 2 awarded patents and numerous pending patent applications, launch of two independent companies and the creation of an annual stem cell meeting geared toward young investigators. The NSCI is located in the capital region of upstate NY in Rensselaer, NY. This is a vibrant scientific region with multiple research organizations, including the Wadsworth Center, Albany Medical Center, SUNY Albany, SUNY Polytechnic and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
