The overarching goal of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Microbiome & Human Health is to elucidate the role of microbiota in human health and disease, and then exploit this knowledge to develop microbiome-focused therapeutic strategies (http://cmhh.ccf.org) . No FDA approved drugs for microbiome –targeted therapies have yet been approved, and our goal is to create this paradigm. We are seeking highly qualified investigators who are interested in solving longstanding and challenging problems in this field.  We are excited to add members to our thriving community who are interested in the “Next Generation” of functional microbiome studies. We seek microbiologists, biochemists, chemists, chemical biologists, bioinformaticians, ecologists, immunologists, and physician-scientists who are interested in developing programs in a wide range of areas including but not limited to:  testing microbes and microbial products in human studies; uncovering functional molecules from the vast as yet unknown members of the proteome and metabolome that shape immune responses, cancer and repair, and other (patho)physiological processes; determining the formation and maintenance of symbiotic microbial communitees; determining functional components of the virome (including bacteriophages) and mycobiome that alter physiology and disease states.

Individuals will receive faculty appointments at the appropriate level (Assistant, Associate, or Full) in the Lerner Research Institute and for practicing physicians, other clinical institutes, as appropriate. New recruits will join a highly collaborative environment with outstanding opportunities for interactions with basic and translational investigators, as well as with clinicians from multiple specialties. Outstanding facilities, generous start-up funds, and ongoing operational support will be provided. We have world class core facilities with the opportunity to grow them through the substantial expansion of the LRI and formation of the pathogen center.

The Lerner Research Institute, with nearly 190 independent investigators in 8 departments and an annual budget of > $300 million, has a commitment to excellence in basic, translational and clinical research, with an emphasis on interactive, collaborative research. Faculty typically also become members of our Molecular Medicine Graduate Training Program and other programs at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland State University, and Kent State University, providing access to excellent Ph.D. students.

Candidates should submit a complete curriculum vitae and brief statement of research interests by email to: Rita Montemarano MONTEMR@ccf.org
