Position Summary
Responsible for development of viral vector manufacturing processes and analysis viral vector products under limited supervision. Participate in the efforts in achieving compliance with all Federal and State accrediting agency requirements in the manufacturing and testing of biopharmaceutical and genetic products manufactured in the Center for Biomedicine and Genetics (CBG). Perform general laboratory activities assigned by supervisor. Provide qualification and validation support for manufacturing processes and quality assurance procedures that are essential to the cGMP production of biomedical products. Required to wear pager, or other communication devices, for effective communication and respond to emergency calls.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Perform general laboratory activities associated with viral vector process development.
  • Assist in development/adaptation of new manufacturing procedures and analytical methodology.
  • Maintains current knowledge of manufacturing/analytical techniques and industry practices.
  • Wear pager, or other communication devices, for effective communication and respond to emergency calls.
  • Assist in creating, reviewing and revising Standard Operating Procedures as necessary.
  • Participate in the efforts in achieving compliance with all Federal and State accrediting agency requirements.
  • Cooperate with other performance improvement and compliance activities within the department and in the institution.


Qualifications
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • BS degree in biological science or related field, plus 3-5 years related experience or a MS in biological science or related field degree with 0-4 years of related experience. Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
  • Background within virus related research is required.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory or manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • A strong background in molecular biology methods to include PCR, ELISA, and FACS technology is a plus.
  • Needs to be flexible to perform tasks during after-work hours (i.e. before 9 am or after 5pm) and during weekends as necessary. The average workload is expected to be 40 hours a week.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation of the experiment procedures and results in a timely and accurately fashion.
  • Work effective in a team environment.
  • Experience in cGMP manufacturing is a plus, but not required.
