Advertisement for the position of rector (f/m/d) at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, for the term of office from 01/02/2022 until 31/01/2026

From 1 February 2022, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, is looking to fill the role of

Rector (f/m/d)

according to the current version of the Universities Act 2002 and the current version of the election regulations for the election of members of the rectorate. The term of office is four years. Re-election is permitted. The role of rector (f/m/d) is to be carried out within the framework of a temporary employment contract with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. The exercising of this function is based on an objectives agreement and an employment contract, both of which must be concluded with the University Council.

The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, the Alma Mater Viridis, was founded in 1872 and today, with around 11,000 students and over 2,800 employees, is one of the leading life science universities in Europe and Austria’s sustainability university. The objective of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, is to contribute to securing livelihoods for future generations through the diversity of its specialist areas. By combining natural sciences, engineering, social and economic sciences, the university increases knowledge to ensure sustainable use of natural resources.

The rector’s (f/m/d) tasks are based primarily on Section 23(1) of the current version of the Universities Act.

Necessary qualifications as per Section 23(2)(2) of the current Universities Act:

  • Able to manage a university’s organisation and finances
  • International experience

 

Further desirable qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification
  • Professional experience in the fields of “sustainability” and “management of natural resources”
  • Experience in management or in teaching and research in the university sector, in companies or other institutions
  • Level C1 German and English skills (additional foreign language knowledge is advantageous)
  • Proven personnel management skills, skills to implement contemporary requirements for diversity and equality, social and intercultural skills; ability to communicate, motivate and cooperate within the university and externally

Furthermore, the applicant (f/m/d) is expected to be able to present ideas for the management and further development of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, as part of a hearing.
