Post-doctoral opportunity in enzymology are available immediately to work on projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Army Research Office (ARO).
Cellular targets and mechanism of action of viperin (NIH)
The radical SAM enzyme, viperin, plays a key role in the cellular antiviral response and has been shown to restrict the infectivity of a number of important human viruses including influenza A, HIV and hepatitis C. Viperin interacts with multiple proteins in the cell to mediate its antiviral activity. We have recently show that viperin regulates enzymes involved in protein ubiquitination and cholesterol biosynthesis. The project will involve characterizing the interactions of viperin with these and other enzymes using a variety of biochemical and structural biology approaches.
Designed protein nano-cages and their application to catalysis (ARO)
Designed self-assembling proteins are attractive building blocks for “smart” biomaterials that exploit the rich structural and functional properties of proteins. We have developed robust methods for protein assembly that result in proteins with significantly enhanced stability. This project will apply what we have learned to construct enzyme nanoreactors aimed at improving the efficiency of enzyme cascade reactions for biofuels production and other applications.

Qualifications
Applicants should have recently obtained or be about to obtain a Ph.D. in a relevant area of research such as enzymology, protein design, or structural biology and will have a demonstrated record of productivity.
Applicants should be highly motivated and able to work independently. They should be prepared to assume leadership of their projects and mentor graduates students and undergraduates working along side them.
