Professor in Neuroscience and Director of Neuroscience Centre

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) seeks to appoint a distinguished scholar as the academic and executive director of the Gerald Choa Neuroscience Centre (GCNC). As an important discipline in biomedical science, neuroscience research at CUHK has a long history and notable achievements. Established with a generous and purposeful philanthropic endowment, the GCNC aims to be a world-class centre of excellence in multi-disciplinary neuroscience research, including neurogenetics, neural circuits and behavior, regenerative neuroscience, neural-vasculature interactions, neuromodulation and brain-machine interface, and other key research areas in neuroscience.

Applicants should be an accomplished academic with (i) an outstanding record of scholarship appropriate for senior appointment at the level of a full Professor; (ii) an appreciation of the breadth and depth of neuroscience, in particular the development of cutting-edge innovations; (iii) experience in leading well-funded, internationally-recognized, and multi-disciplinary collaborative research programmes; (iv) demonstrated leadership and management ability at an appropriate level in higher education institutions; (v) long-term vision for the development of a contemporary centre of research excellence; and (vi) excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable professional consortial interactions among different stakeholders.  

The appointee will (a) be responsible for the vision and stewardship of the research centre; (b) undertake overall responsibilities for academic, staff and resource matters; and (c) provide strong academic leadership especially in planning and leading research directions of the centre.  Depending on his/her specialty area of scholarly interests, the selected candidate will be affiliated to an academic unit.  Salary and fringe benefits for the post will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
