Associate/Full Professor in One Health

TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN ONE HEALTH

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences (www.vbs.psu.edu) in the College of Agricultural Sciences and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking talented applicants for a tenure-track Associate/Full Professor in One Health. This position will entail a combination of research, extension/outreach and classroom teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to have an established nationally/internationally recognized record of scholarship in research and clinical sciences. Requirements include expertise and experience in BSL3 agricultural and human pathogens, diagnostics, One-health, zoonoses, spillover, influenza, viral pathogens, coronaviruses, bacterial pathogens, host antiviral responses and immunity, molecular epidemiology of one health pathogens, diseases at animal-human interface, pathogen whole genome sequencing, emerging viral pathogens, pathobiology, epidemiological surveillance, vaccines, therapeutics, serology, evolutionary and ecological epidemiology, determinants of host range, clinical and translational microbiology.

Applicants must have a MD, DVM/VMD, or Master of Veterinary Science, and a Ph.D. in immunology, biochemistry, life sciences, microbiology, or related disciplines, and an outstanding record of accomplishment in research, diagnostic service and an established track record of funding. Board certification in clinical microbiology and previous record of mentoring graduate students would be considered an advantage. The position will entail a 50% research and 50% clinical appointment with the Penn State Animal Diagnostic Laboratory. This position features a competitive start-up package, outstanding research space and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation at Penn State, a Gnotobiotic facility, and an ABSL-3 laboratory.

The successful candidate will be expected to continue a strong, independent research program supported by extramural funding to provide novel discoveries and mechanistic underpinnings relevant to important animal and/or human health concerns. Other responsibilities include active participation in a vibrant community of immunology, infectious disease researchers, and training graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Contributing to an undergraduate course in immunology and infectious disease is encouraged. The successful candidate will become an effective member of the Center for Molecular Immunology and Infectious Disease and Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics within the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (http://www.huck.psu.edu). Consistent with Penn State policies, the faculty member is expected to: be a good citizen in the Department and serve on Departmental, College and University committees as appropriate, comply with all relevant policies, maintain high ethical standards, and participate in professional service and/or outreach as part of the academic appointment.
