Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Research Scientist to join our Oncology Biology group.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the discovery, research, and development of novel therapeutics targeting epigenetic controls of gene expression.

Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently plan, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments directed at mechanisms of epigenetic control of gene expression
  • Contribute to understanding of epigenetic regulatory mechanisms of immunotherapy resistance
  • Contribute to the initiation and/or advancement of drug candidate projects into the pipeline
  • May manage Research Associates or direct members of project teams in the initiation and execution of experimental plans
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies and implement new approaches to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally with colleagues in the oncology, bioinformatics, chemistry and other relevant functions
  • Presents research findings and recommendations to senior staff and contribute to preparation of research reports, manuscripts, INDs, and patent filings
  • Must think critically and creatively and be able to work independently, determine appropriate resources for resolution of problems and have strong organizational and planning skills

Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • PhD degree and 5 - 7+ years of experience in Cell Biology, Molecular biology, or Immunology with a cancer-related focus or Bachelor's degree with extensive experience
  • 3+ years in industry or in applied academic lab academia focused on chromatin biology and epigenetic controls of gene expression
  • Deep and broad knowledge of mechanisms of chromatin regulation and its importance in cancer initiation and progression REQUIRED
  • Technical skills applicable to chromatin biology as well as extensive experience in general molecular and cell biology methods
  • Experience in drug discovery and target identification / validation in oncology or immuno-oncology
  • In vivo study design/execution and CRO management a plus
  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational and record keeping skills is a requirement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Level will commensurate with experience.
