Position: The Department of Molecular & Biomedical Sciences seeks to fill a 50%-research, 50%-teaching, tenure-track, academic year Assistant Professor position in Molecular Biology to be available September 2021. Molecular biologists conducting research in a wide range of biomedical topic areas will be considered. The University has established zebrafish and small animal facilities and has a core of investigators applying molecular and genomics approaches to biomedical research. The specific research emphasis of this position is flexible and may include, but is not limited to, the use of molecular approaches responsible in cancer, pathogenic infection, cellular and molecular genetics. The department currently has strengths in molecular genetics, cell signaling, aging, toxicology, microbiology, immunology, as well as regulatory RNA. The successful applicant will have opportunities for appointments in the UMaine Institute of Medicine and the state-wide Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering (GSBSE).

A Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a relevant field and postdoctoral research experience is required. Initial teaching will include Molecular Genetics and an upper level course in molecular biology. The successful candidate will also teach a graduate course in their area of expertise on an alternate year basis. The candidate’s research should incorporate research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, and the candidate will engage in student advising. Faculty with 50/50 teaching/research appointments are expected to average 9 credits per year. Teaching assignments may change with considerable notice based on department needs and the candidate’s expertise.
