Postdoctoral Research Associate

The University of Mississippi (https://www.olemiss.edu/) and the UM Center for Biodiversity and Conservation Research (https://cbcr.olemiss.edu/) announce the availability of a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Biology. The successful candidate will assist researchers in the development, deployment and evaluation of the Gulf Coast Citizen Science Initiative, through a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the RESTORE Council. GMCSI will help with conservation and management of marine and coastal resources along the north central Gulf of Mexico through development of a smart phone app, eventually resulting in a multi-year data base. The app will: 1. provide increased understanding of the marine environment 2. promote public awareness and educate our citizenry regarding marine environmental issues, and 3. create an important data-base that will help protect our dwindling marine resources. The project may involve travel to meet with resource managers and coastal residents to explain the program, and to present at scientific conferences. This full-time position is for a term of up to two years. Starting date is flexible within the first half of 2021, but sooner is better. Required Qualifications:  Education at the time of appointment, the successful applicant will have a PhD in marine science, biological oceanography, marine ecology, fisheries science or similar. Familiarity with the marine fauna of the Gulf of Mexico is highly desirable.
