Job Details

Overview

The Department of Structural Biology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital seeks a Scientific Manger for its state-of-the art cryo-electron microscopy facility. The facility currently houses three Thermo Scientific cryo-TEM microscopes, a Titan Krios, Talos Arctica and Talos L120C. The facility’s Titan Krios and Talos Artica are both equipped with a Gatan K3 direct electron detector and BioQuantum imaging filter. The institution’s strategic plan includes expansions across a range of frontiers, beginning with the addition of a second Titan Krios to fuel new initiatives in cryo-electron tomography. The cryo-electron microscopy center serves a vibrant community of scientists using both single-particle and tomographic methods to determine structures of molecules and their assemblies to support both basic science discoveries and the identification of new strategies of therapeutic potential.

The Scientific Manager of the cryo-EM center will direct day-to-day operational and client management activities. Such responsibilities include microscope operation and maintenance, grid preparation, loading and assessment, data collection, user training, and the management of collaboration workflows with St. Jude research groups.

Qualifications include deep and broad expertise in cryo-EM instrumentation and data acquisition software, hands-on expertise in single-particle and/or tomography structure determination, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. Management experience in successful collaborative research projects preferred. Ideal candidates will have prior core facility and teaching experience.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital offers a remarkable opportunity to perform cutting edge research with outstanding institutional support and exceptional shared core facilities in an environment of open collaboration, educational advancement, and ample training opportunities. St. Jude is consistently ranked on Fortune Magazine’s and Glassdoor’s “100 Best Places to Work” for companies with 1,000 or more employees. We are located in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee, a vibrant and friendly city at the historic American crossroads of music, trade, food, and culture. Mild winters and beautiful green outdoor spaces are part of the reasons why Forbes recently named Memphis the 4th happiest city in which to work. Cost of living and high quality of life are other attractions; Money magazine listed Memphis as one of the least expensive cities in which to raise a child. St. Jude facilities and salaries are highly competitive.

How to Apply:

Interested applicants should submit directly online a curriculum vitae and a 1-2 page description of previous experience and accomplishments in cryo-EM.
