Postdoctoral Fellow in Membrane Fusion
A postdoctoral position investigating the biochemistry and cell biology of protein-mediated membrane fusion in the labs of Dr. James McNew and Michael Stern at Rice University.
We currently use multiple approaches to characterize and understand the mechanistic basis of membrane fusion by Atlastins and SNARE proteins. One NIH-funded project involves fusion and regulation or the eye-specific t-SNARE Syntaxin 3B. Another project has a specific emphasis on a mechanistic understand of the role of the membrane anchors in driving fusion.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in recombinant protein production, lipid handling, protein reconstitution, and enzymology as well as the ability to think critically and independently, and with a proven track record of productivity as a graduate student. Additionally, skills such as western blotting, immunohistochemistry and microscopy are a plus.
The start date is flexible and negotiable but the position is currently open and is expected to be funded until at least March, 2023.
