The Gregor Mendel Institute (GMI) is looking to recruit a Senior Group Leader. The appointment is for 5 years, renewable indefinitely. The position is similar to Associate or Full Professor but has no teaching obligations, and comes with a substantial annual research budget as well as access to state-of-the-art facilities. It thus provides an opportunity to carry out curiosity-driven research unhindered by the limitations of funding agencies.
The goal of the GMI is to advance basic research that can be related to plant biology. We welcome all applications from broad and diverse fields of research. Our main criterion is scientific excellence, and questions with the potential to change how we view or interact with the world.
The GMI is part of the Vienna BioCenter, one of Europe’s leading life-sciences research locations, with over 1,800 researchers from at least 80 countries, organized into a broad spectrum of research institutes, universities, and companies.
The campus is located near the center of Vienna, one of the world’s most liveable cities. The working language is English, and the environment is family-friendly, with subsidized on-campus child-care facilities.
Please send your cv, a letter of motivation, and a brief description of your research program (no more than two pages) to recruitment@gmi.oeaw.ac.at.
Informal inquiries can be directed to the Scientific Director, Dr. Magnus Nordborg (magnus.nordborg@gmi.oeaw.ac.at), or to any other GMI group leader.
Review of applications for the present search will begin 01 May and will continue until the position is filled.
