Full Professor (W3) Microbiome Dynamics
The successful candidate will be appointed as professor at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. The professorship is part of the Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse (www.microverse-cluster.de). Balance of the Microverse combines expertises in life, optical, material and computational sciences to elevate microbiome studies from descriptive to hypothesis-driven and functional analyses. Members of the Cluster will benefit from an interdisciplinary imaging facility, data analysis support and our affiliated early career researchers program of the Jena School for Microbial Communication.
Candidates with an excellent publication record and broad experience in microbiome research with emphasis on Fungi are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a rigorous research program in the dynamics of host-associated microbiome composition and function, incorporating the fungal component of microbiomes. The position further involves teaching in relevant degree programs. The acquisition of third-party funding and leadership skills are expected.
Conditions of employment include Habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification as well
as didactic suitability. If the successful candidate meets the legal requirements, he or she will
be appointed as civil servant permanently.

biogeosciences, optics / photonics, materials science and bioinformatics / systems biology at
the university and non-university research institutes. Jena provides an attractive research
environment with a highly integrative network of natural and life science groups, including
close collaboration with biotech companies. The new professor is expected to extend and
intensify these collaborations.
The Friedrich Schiller University Jena is committed to increasing the number of women in
