POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of the Senior Associate Scientist position is to provide the planning and execution of experiments designed to aid in defining manufacturing processes for biopharmaceuticals. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of biochemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, bioconjugation, chromatography, and filtration design principles. This position requires the design and execution of experiments using these technologies and the ability to evaluate and clearly report the results to laboratory colleagues and other affected functional areas.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops scalable, robust, efficient, and innovative chemical and biochemical conjugate processes suitable for clinical material production and commercialization.
  • Supports transfers to pilot and commercial facilities to produce clinical and commercial materials.
  • Supports necessary purification activities to produce drug substances with appropriate quality attributes.
  • Contributes to the preparation of technical reports and regulatory filings, makes oral presentations to engineers, scientists and management, and contributes to external publications.
  • Performs all duties associated with the operation of effective research laboratories.
  • The successful candidate must be able to endorse change to business infrastructure to ensure pipeline, legacy and technology success.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS with 2-5 years' experience or M.S. with 0-2 years in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of drug development processes for progression of biological candidates.
  • Familiarity with GLP/GMP requirements. Familiarity in scale-up and technology transfer to pilot/commercial scale.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills are required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of synthetic chemistry route optimization.
  • Knowledge of peptide and/or oligonucleotide chemistry and synthesis.
  • Knowledge of bio-conjugation and characterization.
  • Experience with protein analytical methods (e.g. SE-HPLC, SDS-PAGE, Capillary Electrophoresis, IEF, etc.) including mass spectrometry (peptide mapping).
  • Familiarity with parenteral manufacturing requirements, including filtration, container/closure.
