You will perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of organic, inorganic compounds, or biologics to determine chemical and physical properties during chemical syntheses, fermentation or drug product development process.

You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Apply understanding of carbohydrate chemistry and structures in order to identify key attributes and develop robust assays used to routinely characterize polysaccharides and polysaccharide-protein conjugates including size, potency, free protein and free polysaccharide content upon stability.
  • Propose and develop analytical assays to support process development with respect to drug substance intermediates, monitoring conjugation processes and measuring process residuals.
  • Perform routine and non-routine sample analysis support for in-process, formulation development, and final vaccine candidates.
  • Independently design, plan, and execute assay development, method qualification (per ICH guidelines) and transfer studies.
  • Document experiments, analyze data, and provide conclusions obtained from assay development and sample testing experiments contemporaneously in either an electronic or paper notebook
  • Establish and utilize new technologies, where required, to enhance the characterization and understanding about the vaccines being developed.

Qualifications

Must-Have
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with at least 2 years of academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology experience or an MS plus 7 years of related work experience is required.
  • Experience and proficiency in separation-based analytical techniques (RP-HPLC, SEC-MALS, HPAEC-PAD, and CE) and method qualification following ICH guidelines is essential.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and scientific expertise in analytical method development and troubleshooting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong MS Office skills



Nice-to-Have

  • Experience working in a regulated environment, such as Good Laboratory Practices {part of GxP}.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry space.
  • Experience in separation-based analytical techniques as applied to vaccines.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Standard laboratory conditions - sitting, standing, primarily lab based.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • 40 hours per week
